A new teaser for the highly anticipated sci-fi sequel was released via Instagram on Thursday, and viewers got a fresh look at a very familiar Jedi blade.

The clip shows actor John Boyega finally wielding his lightsaber, possibly bracing for battle against Adam Driver's villain Jedi, Kylo Ren. John's trusty weapon boasts a vivid blue glow, but its solo beam is an old-school feature compared to his opponent's broadsword saber.

John's character, Finn, is a confirmed Stormtrooper, but he's wearing civilian clothes in the sneak peek as he brandishes his weapon. Also featured is fellow newcomer Daisy Ridley as Ren, looking ominously toward the sky alongside robot and early fan favorite, BB-8.
"There's been an awakening," Andy Serkis growls once again as Supreme Leader Snoke, this time narrating a sweeping panoramic shot across the First Order militia. "Have you felt it?"

John certainly has, telling Access Hollywood at the HFPA Grants Banquet in Los Angeles on Aug. 13 that he's already prepared for his lifelong "Star Wars" fandom to creep out of the woodwork.
"Yes, I'm sure there will be a picture of me at 8 or 9 years old wearing a Chewbacca jammie set," he joked of what his impending "Star Wars" fame has in store.
That's not the only memory John recalled while making "The Force Awakens."
The 23-year-old London native also told his Twitter followers on Thursday that filming lightsaber battles hearkened back to his childhood in another special way.

"It's living room sofa combat on steroids," he wrote.
The teaser's release came just as Instagram announced its new templates. Users can now watch the new clip in a cinema-esque landscape format.
"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" hits theaters nationwide on Dec. 18.
