When Miley Cyrus hosts the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday, she’ll be doing so as a bonafide VMAs veteran. In honor of the pop star’s big gig, Gossip Cop is taking a look back at Cyrus’ VMA history. See photos below!

Cyrus’ involvement with VMAs dates back to 2008. That’s when she received her first nomination, in the category of Best New Artist, and when she attended the ceremony for the first time. Then just 15 years old, Cyrus was accompanied by her mom Tish, and took a number of red carpet photos with Katy Perry. She also posed with Taylor Swift.

The following year, Cyrus’ “7 Things” video received a nomination for Best Editing, although she didn’t attend the event. The singer returned to the VMAs in 2011, where she presented alongside Shaun White. In 2012, Cyrus gave the first sign that her style was evolving when she posed on the red carpet with a platinum-blond, mohawk-like hairdo and a partially-sheer dress.

2013, of course, was Cyrus’ biggest VMAs experience to date. The singer’s hit “We Can’t Stop” had earned her nominations for Best Pop Video, Female Video, Editing, and Song of the Summer. And though she lost in all four categories, her infamous performance with Robin Thicke made her the night’s true winner.

Cyrus had a tamer appearance last year, when she won her first and only VMA: Video of the Year for “Wrecking Ball.” But the star memorably had the homeless Jesse Helt deliver an acceptance speech on her behalf. This time around, Cyrus has indicated there’s nothing off limits when she’s at the helm. But what she’ll do and say, wear and not wear, is anyone’s guess, although dad Billy Ray has already revealed he’ll be live-tweeting.
