Kristen Stewart is still marveling over the success of Twilight.
In a joint Toronto Sun interview with Jesse Eisenberg for their new movie American Ultra, Stewart recalls, “Actually, I read the script for Twilight when Jesse and I were on Adventureland. And I didn’t realize anything. Quite the opposite.”
“I thought we could just do whatever we wanted, and we would never make a sequel, and the book was a jumping point and then we could kind of explore this realm, and move on,” she remembers. “And then, all of a sudden, it turned into something… It absolutely happened overnight.”
Stewart further declares, “It was a huge shock to the system. Not just speaking personally. The whole production and every actor involved was hit with this like a ton of bricks.” But while there are pros and cons to worldwide fame, the movie stars remains grateful for the opportunities the franchise afforded her.
“Honestly, if you’re going to focus on what you lose, rather than what you gain in a position like this — and I don’t mean monetary gain — I’m given so much happiness and stimulation by what I do,” says Stewart. She adds, “It would be silly to focus on the fact I can’t go to malls anymore. I’d rather focus on the fact I’m working with incredibly intelligent, driven people who I just want to be around.”
For his part, Eisenberg talks about his Comic-Con experience last month, which he infamously compared to genocide. He now says, “Even if they’re saying nice things, just being shouted at by thousands of people, it’s horrifying.” Still, he acknowledges he doesn’t face the same “scrutiny” as Stewart.
“Maybe some days are difficult, like those big media days, but otherwise, life is normal, I guess. Seems kind of normal,” says Eisenberg. TELL US: What do you think of Stewart and Eisenberg’s comments on fame and success?
