Social media exploded on Saturday after Kanye West‘s new Yeezys Boost 350 sneakers sold out almost immediately.
While people in select cities could make advance “reservations” to buy one of the coveted black pairs, sales opened to the general public online on Saturday morning at approximately 11:25 a.m. Eastern time. An hour later, the official Adidas Twitter account posted, “#YEEZYBOOST 350 is now sold out online in the U.S.” It was a similar situation at retail locations across the country, where would-be buyers waited on lines for hours, only for the shoes to sell out in minutes.
And despite West previously saying that anyone who wanted a pair would (eventually) get one, it seems many retailers, both online and the traditional brick-and-mortar stores, only received extremely small amounts of the shoes. And, well, 10 pairs don’t go very far. The result was a lot of disappointed and even angry people, who took to Twitter and Instagram to vent their frustration.
“Words can’t explain how mad I am that I didn’t get the Yeezys,” tweeted one person. Someone else complained, “IF YOU CANT NAME ALL OF KANYE’S ALBUMS YOU SHOULDNT BE ALLOWED TO BUY YEEZYS.” Another declared, “Getting a pair of Yeezys is like the hunger games.”
A different individual similarly wrote, “Gosh I’m exhausted. Online battling for Yeezys is like training for the next iPhone release.” Even “American Idol” runner-up Jessica Sanchez posted, “The yeezys breaking the Internet.” And one Twitter user concluded, “Only way I’m getting a pair of yeezys is if Kanye gives me a pair himself.”
Indeed, that’s a sure-fire way to be able to rock the kicks. As Gossip Cop reported, West’s wife Kim Kardashian gifted Yeezys to one of her superfans, Myleeza, during a birthday get-together earlier this month. And in February, Kardashian shared an Instagram post showing she had Yeezys 750 Boost sneakers set aside for famous pals like Jay Z and Diddy. TELL US: Do you buy into the Yeezy hype?
