Jenna Bush Hager gave birth to a healthy baby girl on Thursday. The newborn is named Poppy Louise Hager, in honor of former president George H.W. Bush. See photo right and video below!

Poppy’s arrival was announced on Friday’s “Today Show.” Bush Hager had just begun her maternity leave earlier this week after having a special “Today” send-off on Monday. The timing couldn’t have been more perfect, as the correspondent ended up delivering just a few days later.

Poppy came in at 7 pounds, 9 ounces, and measured 20.5 inches. And how does her name connect to her great-grandfather? Well, Bush’s childhood nickname was “Poppy!”

The little girl is now second great-grandchild for the former president and wife Barbara Bush, and, of course, the second grandchild for George and Laura Bush. Bush Hager and husband Henry Hager are already the proud parents of Mila, 2. And now she’s a big sister!

The Hagers say in a statement, “We are thrilled to announce the birth of our darling daughter. Poppy is named after Jenna’s grandfather, George Herbert Walker ‘Poppy’ Bush, a.k.a. Gampy. His nickname growing up was Poppy, and we are proud to name her after a man we so adore. Louise is in honor of our grandmothers’ middle names, Louise and Lewis. Mom and Poppy are healthy and well.”
