“I Am Cait” Recap: Caitlyn Jenner Butts Heads With Kim And Khloe Kardashian

I Am Cait recap

(E!)

On Sunday’s “I Am Cait,” Caitlyn Jenner meets Chaz Bono for the first time, and also butts heads with her step-daughters Kim and Khloe Kardashian.

Jenner and Bono attended a support group at the Los Angeles Children’s Hospital for families of teens dealing with gender identity issues. After greeting each other, Jenner pulls Bono to the side to tell him that he did a “very good job” with his transition. “In your transition, which obviously I was watching and everybody else was watching, I know it’s been a lot of hard work,” says Jenner, adding, “But you’ve done a very good job, and I was really glad to see that.”

In a camera confessional, Jenner says that she’s always wanted to talk to Bono about transitioning. “I met him at ‘Dancing With the Stars’ briefly, and obviously I couldn’t tell him my story,” notes Jenner, adding, “He came out publicly before I did, so finally having the opportunity to spend some time with him, I think it’s going to be great. I can learn a lot from him.”

At another point in the episode, Jenner’s friend Candis Cayne questions the reality TV star about her dating life. While the two girls are waiting for their friends to arrive for a sleepover, Jenner admits she’s “worried” about people trying to ask her out on a date because she doesn’t know “how to handle that.” Cayne decides to test Jenner to see how she would respond. “If somebody walked up to you, who was beautiful, and I was like ‘Would you like to go out on a date sometime?’ What would you say?” The former Olympian blushes and responds, “You’re making this so tough.”

In her confessional, Cayne notes, “Cait she’s discovering this new life with me, which is kind of crazy, like I’m suddenly going along this journey with her and this is the beginning of her process and I’m really enjoying spending time with her and she is open to everything, which I really love.”

Before the other ladies arrive, Jenner and Cayne go to Cayne’s closet to try on some dresses, when the two start to flirt with each other. At one point, Cayne touches Jenner’s boobs as she tries to hold the top of her dress up. Once a few of the ladies finally arrive for the sleepover, the conversation turns serious when Kate Bornstein questions Jenner about being considered a “freak” by a large majority of people. The former Olympian notes that she’s trying to “normalize” being transgender.

Also during the show, Kim and Khloe confront Jenner about comments she made about Kris Jenner during her Vanity Fair interview. Kim tells Jenner, “You still have a little Bruce in you. I thought Caitlyn would be a little kinder.” The two then talk about a “very nasty text” Khloe sent Jenner. “Khloe sees my mom upset and so she gets defensive,” explains Kim, adding, “I read the Vanity Fair, as well, and I think there are some things that you said that you might not realize are hurtful.” Kim continues, “You said Kendall and Kylie [Jenner] were a distraction, and so when they read that, they’re gonna think – I don’t think they’ll quite understand that. Then it said, ‘had Kris been accepting to who I am, we still would be together.’ And that’s the most unfair thing in the world to say.” Kim goes on to say that her mom “is not a lesbian” and “doesn’t want to be with a woman.”

Speaking to the camera, Jenner explains that her Vanity Fair interview was the first time she “had the opportunity to be absolutely truthful with a reporter about every aspect of my life.” She notes, “It was an honest article, and sometimes when you’re honest, it can be upsetting to some people.” In the end, Kim suggests Jenner publicly apologize to Kris, but warns, “You got the fame, but you’re losing your family.”

Later in the episode, Jenner visits Khloe at her home to talk about the “tough” text messages Khloe sent. Khloe says the family wants to “support” Jenner’s transition, but “we don’t think that that entails you speaking negatively about my mom.” She adds, “In our opinion, you don’t even need to mention our mom. Let’s focus on the actual cause here, and let’s not drag my mom through the mud. I would think you would come from a place of more compassion, especially since you have two young daughters who are greatly affected by it.” The episode ends with Khloe and Jenner agreeing to work on their communication. “There’s no maliciousness in my heart and my soul,” says Jenner.
