Hulk Hogan says he wanted to commit suicide at the time he went on his legacy-tarnishing N-word rant. Watch below.
As Gossip Cop reported, the WWE cut ties with the wresting legend last month when it was revealed Hogan ranted about “n*ggers” on his infamous sex tape. For his part, Hogan issued a public apology after the news broke, and insisted that he quit. Now, in his first interview about the scandal, he’s begging for forgiveness, and trying to explain where he was coming from at the time he used the racial slurs.
“I was at the lowest point of my life, to the point where I wanted to kill myself,” Hogan said on Monday’s “Good Morning America.” Asked point-blank if he was “suicidal,” he replied, “Yes, I was.” And asked point-blank if he’s racist, Hogan replied, “No, I’m not.”
He continued, “I never should’ve said what I said. It was wrong. I’m embarrassed by it.” And yet, Hogan went on to make excuses for his language. “A lot of people need to realize that you inherit things from your environment, and where I grew up it was South Tampa, and it was really rough neighborhood, very low-income, and all my friends, we greeted each other saying that word. The word was thrown away like it was nothing,” he argued, blaming the “culture” he “grew up in.”
Hogan said the WWE removing him from its Hall of Fame made it “like I never existed” and was “devastating.” “Just ’cause a person makes a mistake, don’t just throw them away,” he said, insisting he shouldn’t be judged for something he said a decade go. And to the world he said, “Oh my gosh. Please forgive me. I’m a nice guy… I’m just a normal man.”
