Jennifer Lawrence turns 25 on Saturday. Gossip Cop is celebrating by looking back at some of the craziest and most inaccurate tabloid stories we’ve busted about the star.
In 2012, Star alleged Lawrence was “enraged” after supposedly losing out on a movie role to Kristen Stewart. It was the gossip mill’s latest attempt at creating a rivalry between the two actresses, even though Lawrence herself had already dismissed feud rumors. In this case, Gossip Cop was told it was “100 percent untrue” that Lawrence and Stewart had bad blood, and that the film hadn’t even been cast yet.
The next year, Gossip Cop debunked a report that claimed Lawrence invited Robert Pattinson as her date to the 2013 Oscars. Grazia even deemed the pair a “new power couple.” But Gossip Cop confirmed the romance rumors were “totally false,” and that it was “not true” Lawrence asked Pattinson to the Academy Awards. And, of course, the event came and went without Pattinson on Lawrence’s arm.
Perez Hilton helped spread the rumor that Lawrence was taking a “12-month hiatus” from acting in 2014. The report was based on an alleged interview with movie mogul Harvey Weinstein, and Hilton of course picked it up with bothering to fact-check. If he did, he would’ve learned as Gossip Cop did that Weinstein was actually misquoted and never actually said anything of the sort.
That same year, Lawrence actually received an apology from OK! after Gossip Cop debunked a false proposal cover story. The tabloid had falsely announced she was engaged to Nicholas Hoult. We were the first to correctly report there was not a word of truth to the article, and now Lawrence isn’t even with Hoult anymore.
More recently, earlier this year, Gossip Cop once again called out stories linking Lawrence to Bradley Cooper, a years-old rumor that just wouldn’t die. One outlet, Celeb Dirty Laundry, even said the Oscar winner was the reason for Cooper’s split from Suki Waterhouse. It was all les, of course, and Cooper is in a romance now with Irina Shayk, NOT Lawrence.
Gossip Cop sincerely wishes Lawrence a rumor-free birthday. And when the tabloids inevitably continue to spread more bad dish, we’ll be here to correct it.
