The pickup ensures the animated comedy will remain on the network through 2018.
TBS is keeping American Dad in the family.
The Turner-owned cable network has renewed the animated series form 20th Century Fox and Seth MacFarlane for two additional seasons. As part of the deal, encores of the comedy will air on sibling network Adult Swim.
With the 44-episode pickup, the comedy will stretch through its 13th season, with 22 installments in both the 12th and 13th cycles. The renewal will keep the Stan Smith clan on TBS through 2018.
This marks the second renewal for the series, created by MacFarlane, Mike Barker and Matt Weitzman, at TBS. The series moved from Fox to TBS after its first nine seasons. In November, TBS picked up the animated comedy for its 10th season — which will air on TBS and Adult Swim in early 2016.

For TBS, the comedy ranks as basic cable's top scripted series on Mondays at 9 p.m. among adults 18-34 and second in the slot in the key 18-49 demo. Overall, American Dad averages 4 million total viewers per episode, when factoring in repeats on Adult Swim and on-demand and digital streams.
"American Dad has thrived since coming to TBS and Adult Swim, demonstrating the Turner portfolio's ability to build enduring hits through a combination of smart programming, savvy promotion and extensive multiplatform distribution," said Deborah Bradley, executive vp networks optimization and content commercialization for Turner Broadcasting. "We look forward to keeping the crazy-but-lovable Smith family around for a long time."
The long-term renewal — key for animated series that require extra time in their creative process — comes as TBS plans to grow its original programming roster to 15 series over the next two years under chief TBS and TNT president Kevin Reilly. The rebrand is set to begin in the fourth quarter pegged to the season 12 premiere of American Dad and the launches of comedies Angie Tribeca and The Detour.
