100K Want Stewart To Host A Debate – ARTICLE

Jon Stewart may have left "The Daily Show," but fans want him back on the air, this time as host of a 2016 presidential debate.

At press time on Thursday evening, over 110,000 people had signed a Change.org petition asking the Commission on Presidential Debates to give Stewart the chance to moderate a debate.

While the campaign was launched two weeks ago on Change.org, the gathering of virtual signatures increased by 1200% since Wednesday, according to Change.org, and it is now the fastest growing petition on the website.

Mariel Waters of Stanhope, New Jersey, who launched the petition, pointed to Stewart's impressive interview record of interviewing politicians as one of the reasons he should be in the running as a moderator.

"Mr. Stewart has interviewed 15 heads of state, 22 members of the United States Cabinet, 32 members of the United States Senate, 7 members of the United States House of Representatives, and scores of other political leaders from this country and around the world while establishing himself as the most trusted person in (satirical) news," Waters wrote.

Waters also noted that Stewart has a great deal of "trust" from the public in the petition, and referenced that "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" won several Peabody Awards.

Campaigners also started the Twitter hashtag #WeWantJon.

The campaign is currently getting a lot of attention with outlets including Time, Deadline and CNNMoney picking up the story.

Stewart's next TV gig will be hosting WWE's SummerSlam on August 23, airing on WWE Network, per USA Today.
