Zayn Malik made his first red carpet appearance since leaving One Direction, appearing at Friday’s Asian Awards in London, accompanied by his mom Trisha, and sporting a shaved head. See pictures of the singer and his buzz cut below.
The former boy bander shocked the world and broke millions of hearts last month when he announced that he was quitting the group that made him famous. At the time, he said, “I feel like I’m doing what’s right — right by myself and right by the boys, so I feel good.”
While Liam Payne has said One Direction is “gutted” by Malik’s decision, he and the other three performers have continued to take the stage with a smaller lineup. Meanwhile, Malik has been dogged by phony rumors about everything from his relationship with Perrie Edwards to an alleged “sex tape” to a bogus story claiming he’d present at the MTV Movie Awards.
On Thursday’s “The Late Late Show,” One Direction impresario Simon Cowell said he “kind of knew” Malik’s departure was coming, and realized there was no point in trying to convince him to stay.
