Bruce Jenner's first interview about his gender transition nabbed big numbers for ABC Friday.
Diane Sawyer's exclusive 20/20 interview with the reality star, in which he declared "I am a woman," drew 16.9 million viewers and a 5.2 rating among adults 18-49.
The interview will rank as the week's top-rated program and marks a nearly four-point increase from last week's ratings for Shark Tank (1.5 adults) and 20/20 (1.3) in the 9 p.m. and 10 p.m. hours, respectively.
On social media, Jenner's interview was a big hit as well. The special drew 972,000 tweets from 403,000 unique authors, making it the most social Friday telecast of all time not including sporting events.
Leading into Jenner's interview, Shark Tank (1.7 adults) rose two-tenths at 8 p.m. ABC easily topped the night in the demo for the second evening in a row. The network tied CBS for first place on Thursday thanks to Patrick Dempsey's sudden exit from Grey's Anatomy.
The Amazing Race (1.1 adults) and Hawaii Five-0 (1.1 adults) were steady for CBS. Blue Bloods (1.0 adults) dipped two-tenths.
Grimm (1.0 adults) and a special two-hour Dateline (0.9 adults) were flat for NBC.
Barber Battle (0.4 adults) was up two-tenths. Whose Line is it Anyway and The Messengers (0.4 adults) were even for the CW.
