Robert Downey Jr. reflected on his career and humbly gave advice to viewers after being presented the “Generation Award” at the 2015 MTV Movie Awards. His Avengers co-stars Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, and Mark Ruffalo gave Downey the award before they introduced a 90-second clip from the upcoming film, Avengers: Age of Ultron. See the video below.

Johansson quipped that Downey is often like his characters, including Tony Stark, because he’s insanely rich. After a highlight reel spotlighting some of the star’s “touching, hilarious, subtle and commanding work,” Ruffalo introduced the “invincible” Downey himself, who took the stage to loud cheers from the audience. His cast mates than amusingly bowed down to honor him.

In his speech, Downey was his typically cocky but charming self. The star reflected upon the MTV Movie Awards’ inaugural year back in 1992, at which point he thought, “That’s my generation’s version of the Oscars.” He went on, “But when the first Generation Award was given in 2005, I thought, ‘Where’s mine?'” Well, 10 years after that happened, Downey is now finally receiving his honor.

Reflecting on his career, “I’ve failed, I’ve succeeded, I’ve grown up, I’ve partied way too much,” said the star. And after falling far due to personal troubles, Downey “literally clawed [his] way to the top.” “And if a man is judged by the company of his friends, then I must be doing something right,” added the star, pointing to his colleagues on stage. He then encouraged viewers to “dream big” and keep their “noses clean,” “because you can define your generation.”

Downey is a favorite of the MTV Movie Awards, having been nominated several times and even winning the “Best Fight” award in 2013. The actor joins a number of other big-name stars to win the “Generation Award,” including Sandra Bullock, Tom Cruise, Johnny Depp, and Reese Witherspoon. Following his appearance, the show premiered a never-before-seen clip from the upcoming The Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Gossip Cop will have video of Robert Downey Jr.’s acceptance speech for the “Generation Award” at the MTV Movie Awards shortly. Check out the Avengers preview below. What do you think of the actor receiving the honor?
