Rob Taylor “slayed” the competition with a “masterful” performance of “I Put A Spell On You” on Monday’s “The Voice” that earned him a standing ovation from all the coaches. Watch below!

Taylor hit the stage, or rather conquered it, for the Top 12’s live performances. The episode marks the first time this season that it will be up to only the viewers to decide who gets to continue on to next week, with the judges getting no say whatsoever, aside from offering feedback. As Gossip Cop reported, Taylor didn’t receive enough votes in the live playoffs to automatically make the Top 12, but Christina Aguilera handpicked him as the one artist she wanted to keep regardless.

That vote of confidence paid off big time. “That was a masterful performance,” Blake Shelton told Taylor afterward. “You went from left to right, up and down. I thought it was great the way you sang across the stage like that. You made the stage yours.” Adam Levine even went as far as saying, “I can’t guarantee whether you’re going to win the race, but you definitely just pulled ahead.”

And Aguilera was nearly rendered “speechless.” “That was exciting. That was the kind of performance that I come back to ‘The Voice’ for. You just slayed it,” she told her contestant. The superstar went on to commend Taylor for taking her advice to just “let go” when he performs, telling him, “I love you embracing those words… I saw you living up there. And that’s what being a performer and using music to express yourself and be free is all about.”
