Modern Family's Vali Chandrasekaran is putting down roots on the Fox lot.

The one-time Harvard Lampoon editor has inked a two-year overall deal at 20th Century Fox Television. As part of the pact, he'll remain with the series and transition to executive producer of the ABC half-hour the following season.

“Vali has done a terrific job for Chris [Lloyd] and Steve [Levitan] on Modern Family and this deal keeps him on this huge, priority asset, which continues to deliver six seasons in," said 20th TV's president of creative affairs Jonnie Davis.

He added of Chandrasekaran, whose past credits include 30 Rock and My Name is Earl, "We are excited to add Vali’s bold and original voice to our already incredible stable of writers, and we look forward to developing new projects with him down the road."

Chandrasekaran comes from ABC Studios, where he's been under an overall deal that expires next month. As part of the latter, he worked on ABC's Trophy Wife and Mixology. His new deal with 20th TV is set to begin June 1.

He was a consultant at BCG before transitioning to comedy writing and is repped by UTA and Management 360.
