Kim Kardashian talks about being a working mom in a new Elle interview. Asked to give advice to other women entrepreneurs, she says, “Nothing comes easy. I know that people joke all the time and try to figure out, you know, what it is that I do, but I work really hard. I get up every day at 5 a.m. and start my day.”

The reality TV star adds, “I think as long as you work really hard and figure out what you want to do and stay motivated and have a plan and stay committed — just don’t be lazy. That’s my best advice.”

Does Kardashian believe it’s harder for her as a woman in the business world? “I mean yes, I don’t remember a particular instance, but I think that — you know, it’s definitely changing, but even just being someone that’s on reality TV, I think that’s looked upon in a certain way and then, you know, it’s obviously helped my business,” says the star.

She continues, “I love what I do, but I think if you do certain things, it could hurt in business. I don’t think that necessarily me being a woman has hurt my business.”

Of course, the specific nature of her job helps a little bit with Kardashian’s work-family balance. She explains, “Well I feel really lucky that when we film our show, it’s at the house because North sees me get ready and I get to be with her — she’ll come with me if we’re filming at Kourtney’s house, at Khloe’s house —she’ll come with me and we can just drop her off to play with her cousins, and then we can just film in the other room, and if she needs me, she can just come in the other room.”

“So I feel really lucky that I get to spend so much time with her, because we really do spend so much time together,” says Kardashian, who also talks about carving out her own personal time away from North. She explains, “I made it a priority that I knew as soon as the doctor said I was able to work out, I was going to focus and commit myself and really work out, and feel good about myself. So I always gave myself time. So I think for all new moms, I can totally see how you can get wrapped up in making your child 100% your time. But if you could just take 5% or 10% for yourself a day, it won’t just make the difference in your confidence, but also your sanity.”

How has motherhood changed her personal fashion? “I mean at the beginning, when you’re losing your pregnancy weight you don’t really know how to dress, so that just doesn’t count. You just dress as simple as possible,” says Kardashian. “But I think since I’ve gotten in shape, and I feel good about myself, I dress I think sexier now than I did before.”

As for North, Kardashian tells the outlet, “She loves makeup. Every night we play, after her bath, in bed, and you know my purse is always kind of by my nightstand, so she always says ‘purse!’ So she grabs my purse, and that means she wants my makeup bag, so I give her my makeup bag and it’s empty. And if I just turn around for one second, she has my lipstick like all over her face. So I have to give her her own little makeup bag. She’s obsessed with makeup and watching me get ready and getting ready herself. She just loves the process, she could not be more ultimately girly-girl.” What do you think about what Kardashian has to say?
