Chicago Fire wasted no time introducing viewers to the team at Chicago Med on Tuesday's episode of the hit NBC drama. Serving as a backdoor pilot for a possible second spinoff of the flagship series, the Firehouse 51 team found themselves trapped in Chicago Medical when the hospital was forced into a sudden quarantine.
The adrenaline-filled hour started when a vengeful patient inside the hospital went on a suicide mission with a grenade and claiming to be the carrier of a deadly airborne disease. To make matters worse, Casey (Jesse Spencer) found an electrical fire brewing within the hospital.
Because of the security threat, the episode also featured several familiar faces from Chicago PD, Antonio (Jon Seda), Halstead (Jessie Lee Soffer) and Ruzek (Patrick Flueger). But Chicago Med's potential new stars still kept plenty busy. Sharon (S. Epatha Merkerson) and Daniel (Oliver Platt) helped Boden (Eamonn Walker) and the cops get a handle on the situation from outside the hospital and figure out who was behind the outbreak threat. April (Yaya DeCosta) and Ryan (Nick Gehlfuss) helped patients injured from the nearby gas leak. Most importantly, Hannah (Laurie Holden) helped paramedics Mills and Brett save Severide (Taylor Kinney) from life-threatening injuries.
In the end, the disease was found not to be contagious and the ER was re-opened.
