Bruce Jenner’s mother Esther was one of the nearly 17 million people who tuned into his “20/20″ interview, though she wasn’t originally planning to watch. So, what did she think of the two-hour program, her son’s admissions about being transgender, and how his story was handled?
“I think that ’20/20′ and Diane Sawyer did a fabulous job,” Esther tells “Access Hollywood.” She adds, “I think it was very educational and I hope to get more education.” That said, mother and son have not spoken since the broadcast, with Esther explaining, “I don’t want to bring it up with him.”
Esther was one of the family members featured in the ABC special, for which she taped a message for her son. “I want you to be happy, and I love you. I was very proud of you when you stood on that podium in Montreal. I never thought I could be more proud of you, but I’m learning I can be.” Esther’s comments received wide praise, including from Rosie O’Donnell, who tweeted afterward, “oh my god – the mom esther – such grace … this is so emotionally full – thank u diane – abc – bruce – all #abc2020 #AMEN #openHEARTED.”
As Gossip Cop reported, Esther previously discussed Jenner’s transition earlier this year, calling his decision a “shock,” but vowing to “love him like I always have.” What do you think of Jenner’s mother’s comments?
