‘Better Call Saul’: Bob Odenkirk Reveals Finale’s Big Challenge

The actor will have his lengthiest monologue yet, which he strove to perform "exactly as written."

Jimmy (Bob Odenkirk) is ready to have the final word.

In Monday's Better Call Saul finale, Jimmy will be reeling from the news that his brother Chuck (Michael McKean) has been sabotaging his career for years. He must also decide what to do with the massive fraud case he's uncovered while working in elder law. Somewhere along the way, he'll have a monologue that will rival the one he delivered to save his life in the desert with Tuco (Raymond Cruz) in episode two.

 "I find it to be an involving challenge to attempt to do the work as written, even in a speech that long. Exactly, exactly as written," Odenkirk tells The Hollywood Reporter.

Season one has not gone as many of the fans — or even the writers — envisioned from the beginning. Nacho (Michael Mando) was set up to be a big force in season one, but was used sparingly, while Mike (Jonathan Banks) spent the first half of the season stuck inside a parking booth. The writers maintain that's just how the chips fell, with Schnauz saying the writers learned the transition from Jimmy to Saul Goodman would be "much slower" than they initially assumed.

"I maintain that the star of the show is the writing, and all the rest of us are  supporting players, including the guy who plays Saul," says Odenkirk.

Other finale tidbits: A preview clip shows that Jimmy returns to Hamlin, Hamlin & McGill apologizes to Kim (Rhea Seehorn), while an photo confirms Jimmy will reunite with Mike at the infamous parking booth.

Better Call Saul airs at 10 p.m. Mondays on AMC.
