Courtesy of ABCBesting NBC's 'Nightly News' for the second week in a row, the David Muir telecast grows by all measures.
ABC's early April weekly victory in the evening news race was not a flash in the pan. World News Tonight just clocked its second consecutive week at No. 1 among total viewers and adults 25-54, the first time it's done so in more than seven years.
It was also a bigger victory than the week prior. For the week of April 6, World News bested NBC's Nightly News by significantly wider margins. World News was also up from the week before and the same week the year prior, fetching an average 8.25 million viewers — 2.03 million of them in the targeted news demo.
That's 228,000 viewers and 190,000 adults 25-54 more than NBC's telecast. On top of the fact that World News is enjoying its most-watched season in eight years, it's also the only network up compared to the 2014-15 season. It's also David Muir's first year as full-time anchor, having taken the torch from Diane Sawyer in August.
NBC's Nightly News was trending down compared to the same period last year, and that was before Brian Williams left his post for a six-month suspension in February. Lester Holt is currently filling in for Williams.
