‘The Royals’ Ready For Drama! – ARTICLE

There will be no shortage of drama on E!'s new scripted series "The Royals."

Access Hollywood caught up with the show's producer, creator and director Mark Schwahn at the show's New York City premiere where he explained why the show is so addicting.

"If you take the ride with Season 1… .this show will be a lot of things to a lot of people. It'll be a prime time soap to a lot of people," Schwahn told Access Hollywood. "It'll be a guilty pleasure for some, but for me by the end, it's a bona fide worthy drama and I would put it up against any other drama out there which I think is going to surprise some people."

Schwahn, who was also the creator of "One Tree Hill," admits he wasn't a real royal watcher before doing this show.

"I didn't follow the Royal family in the ways many did. For me it was more a nice arena to tell a story. But I'm a fan of the Royal family," he added.

He's does make it very clear too that the show is meant to be purely fictional, noting, "I hope people understand it isn't a commentary on the British Monarchy at all."

When asked which real Royal he'd most like to see guest star, Schwahn chose the option with the most acting experience.

"Cressida [Bonas] is Royal-adjacent... We had reached out to her but I don't think we ever got to her but she'd be right at home on our show," Schwahn revealed.

Here's hoping Prince Harry's ex gets in on the action in Season 2!
