Trevor Noah was named the new host of “The Daily Show” on Monday, and now, less than 24 hours later, the comedian is under fire for a number of eyebrow-raising jokes he tweeted over the years about Jews and women.
As Gossip Cop reported, Noah was selected by Comedy Central to succeed current host Jon Stewart when he steps down later this year, though no timeline for the switch has been announced. Noah is a 31-year-old biracial South African comedian who speaks six languages, and his “unique worldview and a deep understanding of human nature” were heralded by Comedy Central president Michele Ganeless in an interview about his appointment. He’s made only three appearances on “The Daily Show” so far, making his familiarity to the public debatable.
Now virtually all facets of Noah’s life are being examined, including his social media history, which contains tweets that have critics deeming him unfunny at best and anti-Semitic at worst. Among the old messages currently prompting outrage are:

“Almost bumped a Jewish kid crossing the road. He didn’t look b4 crossing but I still would hav felt so bad in my german car!”
“Behind every successful Rap Billionaire is a double as rich Jewish man. #BeatsByDreidel”
“South Africans know how to recycle like israel knows how to be peaceful.”
“I like women that don’t wear make up. For me they’re like pizza- still great the next morning!”
“Oh yeah the weekend. People are gonna get drunk & think that I’m sexy!” – fat chicks everywhere.”
“I’m watching Olympic women’s hockey. It’s like lesbian porn. Without the porn. #InLove”
“A hot white woman with ass is like a unicorn. Even if you do see one, you’ll probably never get to ride it.”
The tweets in question were all sent between 2008 and 2014, though another about Bruce Jenner’s transition (“Looking at how successful all the Kardashian women are, I don’t blame Bruce Jenner at all”) was tweeted just last month. A backlash over the messages has prompted “Trevor Noah” to become a trending topic on Twitter, though he is not without defenders, who point to comedy’s history of toeing the line.
Noah himself seemed to respond to the outcry on Tuesday, tweeting “Twitter does not have enough characters to respond to all the characters on Twitter” before deleting it. TELL US: What do you think of the controversial tweets?
