The upcoming Neil Patrick Harris variety show is NOT being “canceled,” despite a Star report claiming NBC executives may shelve the series after Harris earned subpar ratings and mixed reviews for his Oscars hosting. Gossip Cop can exclusively bust the story.

“NBC is considering cutting some of the 10 episodes or canceling the show altogether, since it would be more of the singing, jokes and pranks that bombed at the Oscars,” explains a so-called “insider” for the tabloid, which goes on to allege that Harris’ self-deprecating jokes following the Academy Awards mask deeper distress.

The Star source says, “He’s really depressed. He’s used to being loved — if his new show is pulled from the schedule, it’ll break his heart.” Fortunately for Harris, Star made up this whole thing about his show being canceled or reduced in scope. It’s “nonsense,” a source close to the situation tells Gossip Cop exclusively.

It seems like Star basically wanted to milk another week out of the Oscars and decided to cast some kind of dark cloud over Harris, whose Oscars performance may not have been a smash hit with everyone, but was definitely not any kind of career-killer.
