The stars of “Empire” brought their signature musical flair to Thursday’s “American Idol.” In addition to an appearance from series star Taraji P. Henson, Jussie Smollett and Bryshere “Yazz” Gray performed “No Apologies.” Watch below!

“Empire,” of course, is one of the hottest new television shows, and just yesterday saw its ratings increase for a ninth week in a row. The first season finale is slated to air next week, with guest stars including former “American Idol” contestant Jennifer Hudson. The FOX drama has been praised for its musical storytelling, with the show focusing on the family behind the fictitious Empire Entertainment company.

The series, however, features very real singings from its stars, and “No Apologies” has been one of its most popular songs to date. The track can now be found on the just-released season one soundtrack, which is in a tight battle with Madonna’s Rebel Heart for the number one spot on the Billboard 200 chart. In addition to tracks from Smollett and Gray, the album also features music from the show’s other stars, including Terrence Howard and Serayah McNeill, as well as guest stars Hudson, Courtney Love, Rita Ora, and Mary J. Blige.

Henson, Smollett, and Gray’s appearance comes one day after their co-stars Trai Byers and Kaitlin Doubleday chatted with “Idol” host Ryan Seacrest on Wednesday’s episode. See the short clip below, and check back shortly for the full performance of “No Apologies.”
