Things have been looking so good for Empire's Jamal Lyon (Jussie Smollett) since he came out at the Empire Entertainment white party. He dueted with diva Delphine (Estelle), who proved to be as big a fan of his as he was of her; he made moves in his father's company to earn some actual respect from Lucious (Terrence Howard); and he has a new boyfriend in Ryan (Eka Darville). But during Wednesday's episode, "Sins of the Father," the other shoe drops.

No, it's not backlash from his coming out, and no, it's not even the return of Olivia (Raven-Symone) that sets Jamal's wheels spinning. It's Ryan's disinterest in Lola (Leah Jeffries), to whom Jamal has grown continuously closer.
"I don't think that Lola should be staying with my dad," Jamal says in a clip, exclusive to The Hollywood Reporter. "I'm thinking about taking her off his hands."
And though he's not asking for Ryan's permission, the suggestion does not fly. Does this mean the end of Ryan and Jamal already?
Take a look at Jamal and Ryan's tense conversation from "Sins of the Father" in THR's exclusive clip below.
Empire airs on Wednesday nights at 9 p.m. on Fox. Be sure to come back this Wednesday for the weekly postmortem interview.
