Adanna Duru received a standing ovation for a powerful performance of “You and I” on Wednesday’s “American Idol,” something she almost didn’t get the chance to earn. On the verge of elimination, the contestant got to perform at the last minute as a season 14 wild card. Watch below!

The Top 12 was revealed one by one on Wednesday’s show, with the top 10 vote-getters from last week automatically snagging spots. It was up to the judges to fill the last two slots with wild cards, and luckily for Duru, she was their second and final selection. Like the rest of the Top 12, she then immediately had to perform her original audition song in hopes of winning enough votes to make the Top 11 tomorrow on Thursday.

After Duru’s performance of the Lady Gaga romance track “You & I,” it was clear why the panel gave her a second chance. Keith Urban gave the singer a standing ovation, the only one of the night, and told Duru afterward, “When you do something like that and you get people who you’re competing with and up out of their chairs and moving around, you got something going on!”

Jennifer Lopez said, “Adana, it was amazing,” but cautioned Duru to work on her vocal strength. And Harry Connick Jr. told the contestant, “Congratulations on making it to this point. You bring a lot of different things to this competition,” before recommending she reign it in slightly. Watch the video below, and tell us what YOU think!
