The stunning pearl Oscar gown Lupita Nyong’o wore to Sunday’s Oscars was stolen from her hotel room earlier this week.
Nyong’o has been staying at The London West in Hollywood, where her dress was allegedly taken from her room between 8 a.m. and 9 p.m. on Tuesday. Nyong’o says she was out for that 13-hour period, and discovered the gown was missing when she returned. According to TMZ, police are reviewing security footage to see if the incident was caught on camera, and could perhaps lead to the perpetrator.
The Calvin Klein Collection dress, valued at $150,000, was adorned with 6,000 pearls and ivory beads. It was custom-made for Nyong’o and designed by the company’s Women’s Creative Director Francisco Costa. Both Costa and Nyong’o posted a number of pictures of the white gown on Instagram during and after the Oscars. See photos below, as well as video of Nyong’o as finishing touches were completed.
Nyong’o, who won Best Supporting Actress at last year’s Academy Awards, attended the 2015 ceremony to present Best Supporting Actor. She broke out as a major style star during the 2014 awards season. Gossip Cop has reached out to reps for Nyong’o and Calvin Klein for more information. We’ll have updates.
