Wet Hot American Summer is coming back. The cult favorite 2001 movie is officially being revived as an eight-episode Netflix limited series, it was confirmed on Friday. The show is created by David Wain and Michael Showalter, who wrote the original movie, with Wain returning as director.

Specific casting and plot details have not been revealed, but it’s being reported that most of the original cast is returning for the Netflix revival. The movie’s cast included Bradley Cooper, Paul Rudd, Elizabeth Banks, Amy Poehler, Molly Shannon, Janeane Garofalo, David Hyde Pierce, Ken Marino, Michael Ian Black, Joe Lo Truglio, Christopher Meloni, Judah Friedlander… pretty much everyone in Hollywood. The movie was an absurd, aggressively silly and surreal take on the goings-on at a Jewish summer camp over one day in 1981.

Discussion of a possible prequel movie or TV series has been percolating for years, and earlier this week, Netflix executive Ted Sarandos told reporters, “We’re really excited about the proposition [of] getting the show back together.” But it wasn’t until Friday that the “Wet Hot American Summer” show became official, making it the second beloved comedy, after “Arrested Development,” to be revived on Netflix. Are you looking forward to the return of “Wet Hot American Summer”?
