An emotional Steve Harvey broke down in tears on Friday’s show, overwhelmed when his family came out to surprise him for his 58th birthday. The talk show host delivered a message of love to his children, and later cried again when he learned the block where he grew up in Cleveland had been renamed in his honor. Watch the video below.
“When I’m done, I want you all to just have remembered that somebody cared more about you than himself,” a choked-up Harvey told his kids. “I will defend your honor until I die. This is the greatest moment I’ve ever had. I’m very proud to be your father.”
As Harvey watched video of “Steve Harvey Way” being unveiled in Cleveland, he lost it again. “I learned everything I know about survival on that block,” he told the audience. The comedian became emotional a third time when Bruce Ayers, the first comedy club owner to give Harvey a headlining job back in 1989, stood up in the studio to wish him well.
