Shannen Doherty says she’s remained tight with her “Beverly Hills 90210″ co-stars Ian Ziering, Jennie Garth, and Brian Austin Green, but she’s not nearly as close with her former onscreen brother Jason Priestly, especially after he portrayed her to be a diva in his 2104 memoir.
In the book, Priestly recounted a story about how the “Beverly Hills 90210″ cast had to take a private jet to New York, and shortly after Doherty boarded the plane, she allegedly griped about everything. He claimed that she complained to the show’s PR person, “You send a town car to take me to the airport, not a limo?’ “That was just the beginning”, wrote Priestly, adding that Doherty then “began bitching about the short notice and the food on board and the temperature in the cabin and everything else.”
During an interview to air on Friday night on Sirius XM, Doherty hits back at Priestly, who in 2002 was in a near fatal car crash that fractured his spin and a resulted in a head injury after he smashed into a wall at the Kentucky Speedway while driving 180 mph. Doherty tells interviewer Jenny Hutt, “I love Jason, but you know he had a car accident… a racing accident, and I think maybe parts of his memory got altered from that.” The actress notes, “Supposedly I wanted a limo, and I’ve always hated limos my entire life. I find them embarrassing and grotesque. I mean there’s things that would in no way happen.”
Doherty points out that she wasn’t on that flight. “I didn’t even go on that jet at that point in time,” says Doherty, who feels Priestly “totally confused me with somebody else maybe from the show.” She tells the interviewer, “At some point everybody just needs to sell a book, right? ”
When asked about Tori Spelling and how her life plays out on her reality show, Doherty responds, “I would never in a million years choose that for myself. Ever…. That is her choice of how she wants to deal with it. Some people need to put it out there, and for whatever her reasons were I think she wanted to own it herself… because it was going to be in the papers regardless. It’s just not a choice I would ever choose to make.”
Doherty also discusses how celebrities are able to respond quicker to tabloid rumors, thanks to social media, and how one would think that the magazines would become, as a result, “more responsible.” Sadly, Doherty says, they haven’t.
