Sam Smith On Beyonce, Haters & Grindr – ARTICLE

Despite reports that Sam Smith has plans to give Beyonce his Grammy if he should beat her out for Album of the Year, the singer tells Access Hollywood otherwise!

Those were just some of the revelations Sam gave to Access' Liz Hernandez on Thursday in Los Angeles.

"It was a joke, I was joking! What I was trying to say is, if I did get that – which I think is very unlikely, it would just be insane because I love Beyonce's album so much," he explained.

Sam thinks it is unlikely he will win Album of the Year, but he does hope to win the award for Best New Artist, that's the honor he really wants – because you only have the opportunity to win it once!

"I would really, really, really love that one," he said of the honor that went to Macklemore and Ryan Lewis in 2014.

When it comes to his personal life, Sam does not want to be known as a gay singer. He wants to be known as a singer who happens to be gay.

"I'm a singer and I'm a songwriter… I came out when I was 10 years old. I've been gay a long, long time, my entire life. And what I'm saying, is that I want people to see me as a singer and listen to my music first," he told Liz.

As far as dating, don't look for Sam on Tinder or Grindr. He likes more of a mystery when it comes to relationships.

"Some of my bandmates do it," he said referring to Grindr and Tinder. "And they're just like swiping people. I think it's funny. It's funny and great and I get it… for me, the people that I've properly fallen in love with, I didn't necessarily think they were lookers to begin with, I would have swiped them."

The bigger the star, the bigger the target and Sam has been hit with negative comments from people like Howard Stern who called him ugly. Sam combats this by ignoring the slams.

"I just need to ignore it," he said of the haters. "The most important thing is that I just don't let it pull me down."
