Rosie Perez is reportedly leaving “The View.” The news comes as the co-host has taken off the month of January to to star in a Broadway play. A rotating roster of guest co-hosts, like Naya Rivera, have appeared, or are slated to appear in her place.

Variety now reports that Perez won’t be returning to “The View” when her show Fish in the Dark is completed, and that the substitute hosts are producers’ attempts at finding a replacement. The outlet cites sources as saying, “Perez never got a hang of the show’s mixture of hard and soft news, and she had trouble reading from a TelePrompTer.”

Gossip Cop has reached out for comment. In a brief statement, ABC News says, “Rosie Perez is currently in rehearsal for her Broadway play for the month of January. Her status with the show has not changed.” The message, however, doesn’t exactly address Perez’s future.

Perez joined the revamped show in September, alongside fellow newbie Nicolle Wallace and returning panelist Rosie O’Donnell. Whoopi Goldberg remains the only holdover from last year, when Barbara Walters retired, and both Joy Behar and Jenny McCarthy left the morning program. Variety reports that a downward ratings trend has actually stabilized this season, at least in total viewers, but the chatfest is still struggling in key demos.

A false OK! rumor earlier this month wrongly claimed ABC was canceling “The View,” and considering expanding “Good Morning America.” As Gossip Cop reported, the story was untrue, and that still appears to be the case. The network and producers plan to make more changes to the show, and are not doing away with it all together. We’ll have updates.
