Mike Huckabee, who’s running for President in 2016, had to defend himself on Thursday’s “The View,” for disparaging one of America’s national treasures, Beyonce. As Gossip Cop reported, in his newly published book, “God, Guns, Grits and Gravy,” the former Fox News host suggests that Jay Z acts like Beyonce’s “pimp.” He said of her sexy performance of “Drunk In Love” at last year’s Grammys, “My reaction: Why? Beyonce is incredibly talented – gifted, in fact. She has an exceptional set of pipes and can actually sing. She is a terrific dancer – without the explicit moves best left for the privacy of her bedroom.” Huckabee added in the book, “Jay-Z is a very shrewd businessman, but I wonder: Does it occur to him that he is arguably crossing the line from husband to pimp by exploiting his wife as a sex object?”
While discussing a slew of topics, including a bid for the White House in 2016, Huckabee had to clarify his view on this pressing issue in front of none of other than Michelle Williams, who was a guest host. The one-time Arkansas governor acknowledged, “I’ve had so much uproar over half a page… Half a page in a 270-page book.. Gosh, that’s all I’ve heard about this week.” Still, he stood firm, “She’s the most amazing singer, great set of pipes, unbelievable dancer and she doesn’t need to do songs like ‘Partition’ and ‘Drunk In Love’ in order to be an effective and an amazing talent.” Huckabee felt she could tone down the sexiness “because she’s such a role model for so many young women, and this is what I said and it was a simple illustration.”
Rosie O’Donnell simply explained the politics of it all: “You can’t mess with the queen bee.” That’s when Williams, who was in Destiny’s Child with Beyonce, jumped in. “You know what, you definitely can’t mess with her,” echoed Williams. She went on to say, “As someone who has definitely come up in a group with her, has seen her hard work and who she is, I just feel like, you know, that album and those songs… It’s that one moment where she decided to probably do some songs she’s always wanted to do, to shed that ‘I’m a good girl [image].’ She had some freedom and she owned it and she took it, so I was definitely offended [by Huckabee’s remarks].”
Williams added, “I’m not the Carters’ spokesperson, but to hear some of those comments that you said, I thought were very, very, very low.” Huckabee politely replied, “A lot of what people are reacting to are the headlines and the stories that the reporters wrote, not what I actually said in the book.
