Kyle Norman of Jagged Edge, the R&B group that sang “Let’s Get Married” and other hits, was arrested on Thursday and charged with aggravated assault after allegedly beating up his fiancee and attempting to make her choke on her engagement ring.

According to law enforcement official in Atlanta, where Norman was taken into custody, the performer and his girlfriend were involved in a violent domestic dispute. When cops were called to the scene, they found the woman with a golf ball-sized knot on her forehead, cuts to her nose, and a blood clot in her eye. She told officers that Norman attacked her after the couple began arguing about his drinking in the wake of Norman’s father’s cancer diagnosis.

According to the fiancee, Norman threatened to kill her, punched her, choked her with a scarf, and forced her engagement ring down her throat. She eventually escaped to a neighbor’s house, and was ultimately taken to Atlanta Medical Center for treatment. Norman was hauled off to jail, where he remains.

Jagged Edge, featuring Norman, Richard Wingo and identical twins Brandon and Brian Casey, scored a number of hits on the R&B charts in the late 1990s and early 2000s. They’re perhaps best known for 2001’s “Where The Party At” with Nelly. See Jagged Edge in happier times in the “Let’s Get Married” video below.
