‘HTGAWM’s’ Viola Davis: Episode 10 Is ‘Pretty Spectacular’ – ARTICLE

"How to Get Away with Murder" returns with its first new episode of 2015 on Thursday night, and tensions are running high.

"It picks up pretty much where it left off," Viola Davis told Access Hollywood at the Television Critics Association Winter Tour.

"And, I have to say, just when I thought, 'Where are they going to go with this?' They go in a direction that is so dynamic and interesting. Episode 10 is pretty spectacular," she added.

Viola, who just won a Screen Actors Guild Award for playing Professor (and defense attorney) Annalise Keating, suggested that how we saw things end in the ABC TGIT drama's midseason finale might be reframed.

"They pick up on murder night and I think that whatever you thought happened, may not be what happened," she said.

For anyone whose memory of said events have gone a little hazy following the holidays, in the final moments of Episode 9, Annalise spoke with the Keating Five, telling them she found out her husband, Sam Keating, did have an affair with Lila Stanguard (the girl Rebecca is on trial for killing). Tearfully, she also told them she confronted Sam, they fought, and she thinks he has now "fled."

The final scene was a game changer, though. In the flashback, set not long after Wes killed Sam with the trophy, the young man apologized and immediately found himself startled as Annalise responded from the edge of the room, "Don't be." She was sitting behind the desk.

Matt McGorry (also a SAG Award winner, as "Orange Is The New Black" won for Best Comedy Ensemble) promised there will be some reveals about his TV teacher when the show resumes.

"We get some context as to where Annalise was that night and really the entire situation of how she was at the house. Was she just taking a nap on the desk and happened to wake up at the end? [That's] not the case. I'm not spoiling it there… I think [that] would be a pretty anticlimactic thing, but we really understand sort of what role she had in the whole thing, which is pretty crazy," he told Access  last Saturday at the Entertainment Weekly pre-SAG Awards party at the Chateau Marmont.

At the same event, Jack Falahee (Connor) said the murder will, of course, have repercussions on the students.

"I think the writers do a really excellent job in the second half of the season of exploring the fallout of the murder," he said.

"How to Get Away with Murder" returns Thursday at 10/9c on ABC.
