‘HTGAWM’: Cast On Surprise New Character – ARTICLE

"How to Get Away with Murder" roared back to ABC on Thursday night, introducing a major new character to face off with Annalise Keating.

Not only does the defense attorney and professor have the heat of the police coming down on the Keating household (in the episode they searched her house looking for clues to the "missing" Sam's whereabouts), but Sam's sister, Hannah, played by Marcia Gay Harden, is in Philadelphia and defending her brother's honor.

Hannah was introduced in the final scene of Thursday's episode, telling the police (within earshot of Jack Falahee's Connor) that there's no way her brother is a murderer (of the late Lila Stangard). And she's about to take on Annalise (Viola Davis), a woman she clearly has no love for.

"She's such a wonderful actress… not a lot of people can necessarily go toe-to-toe with Viola and I think it's pretty cool to see that. It sort of reminds me of like when I have Godzilla and King Kong fight," Matt McGorry (Asher) told reporters on the "HTGAWM" set.

"I wanna know which one was Godzilla," Viola said, when AccessHollywood.com shared with her Matt's loose comparison.

Joking aside, there's more than the Hannah problem for Annalise and her team in the weeks ahead on "HTGAWM," including the police searching for the (not really) "missing" Sam, Michaela's lost engagement ring, and quite possibly Sam's wedding ring, which is now tucked away in a jewelry box upstairs.

Here's what we learned from the cast about how the drama will be shaken up in the weeks ahead:

Hannah Vs. Annalise

Viola Davis said having her TV sister-in-law in town will give viewers a (much desired) look at Annalise's backstory. "You're gonna see Annalise's past. You're gonna see the dots start connecting [them] in terms of how [she] and Sam met, what my connection was with his family. So you're gonna see all of that and you're gonna start filling in the blanks in seeing why Annalise is the way she is," Viola said. "You'll kind of… get on that road, that track, and also, it [raises] the stakes of the murder mystery because she's Sam's sister."

Sam Keating's Wedding Ring: Is It A Problem?

Wes brought Annalise her late husband's wedding ring after he, Connor, Laurel and Michaela disposed of the body, and she went and put it upstairs in her jewelry box. Why? "You will see," Viola said, stopping short of saying any more.

And then there's the fact that Michaela's engagement ring is missing too.

"Yeah, that's also a problem," Jack Falahee (Connor) said.

"I feel bad for you guys, man," Matt, whose character, Asher, was not a part of the murder or cover up, laughed.

The Police Hunt For Sam Keating

After Annalise proved, using cell phone location evidence, that Sam Keating was at the sorority house on the night of Lila Stangard's murder, her (late) husband became a suspect and the police are now looking for him. The four Keating students involved in his murder and cover up will really feel that heat, Jack said.

"That's a problem," Jack said of the police Sam-hunt. "Connor raises that point at the courthouse where… now that [Sam's] the prime suspect and the crosshairs have been put on him, that there might be more of a microscope on us in the house and that's definitely something that the writers explore. … There's definitely the added stressers of potentially having the Philadelphia Police milling through the house."

"HTGAWM" continues Thursdays at 10/9c on ABC.
