Chris Brown is allegedly the victim of identity theft, and, ironically, the police could be at fault.
As Gossip Cop reported, Brown was jailed last March after he was kicked out off his court-mandated rehab program, but was temporarily released under police supervision to travel to Washington, D.C. for a hearing in his assault case. While in official custody, Brown was transported to D.C., but not before stopping for a day at at the San Bernardino County Jail, where he was required to provide identification.
For reasons unknown at this point, Brown’s I.D. was allegedly left behind at the jail as he continued on with his trip to D.C., and then back to Los Angeles, where he remained behind bars until early June. Now, nine months after the identification was apparently left behind, it surfaced online with a guy attempting to sell it for $10,000.
Brown’s attorney Mark Geragos contacted police, who interviewed the suspected, who claimed he obtained the I.D. from a friend, who in turn got it from another pal. An investigation is ongoing to determine how police lost possessions of the identification card and if any criminal charges will be filed, reports TMZ.
Of course, Brown is in the midst of other legal woes right now. His probation was revoked earlier this month after he allegedly left the county without permission and failed to complete community service. A judge will hold a hearing in March in which it will be decided whether the singer violated the terms of his probation, and what the punishment should be, if any. Gossip Cop will have updates.
