David O. Russell’s abandoned film Accidental Love has finally gotten a release date, with the trailer for the independent movie starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Jessica Biel debuting on Tuesday. Russell, who later went on to direct Silver Linings Playbook and American Hustle, left the project in 2010 and no longer takes credit for the political comedy, which had originally been titled Nailed.
The long-delayed movie actually began filming in 2008. After multiple production delays and stoppages, Russell washed his hands of the $26 production two years later, calling it “a painful process” and noting he could “no longer call it my film.” Now, several years later, the movie is being released with Stephen Greene, possibly a pseudonym for Russell, listed as the director of the satire.
In the film, Biel stars as Alice, an uninsured waitress who heads to Washington D.C. to reform health care after getting a nail stuck in her head. Gyllenhaal plays Howard, the young senator who takes up her cause. Romance soon begins to blossom between the unlikely pair. James Marsden, Catherine Keener, Tracy Morgan and Kirstie Alley also appear in the movie, which be available on VOD February 10 and theatrically on February 20.
