Ansel Elgort is not gay. Despite having had until recently a longtime girlfriend (his high school sweetheart Violetta Komyshan), there have been persistent rumors about Elgort’s sexuality, so The Fault In Our Stars actor set the record straight on Twitter.
“Just in case it isn’t clear… I like girls. A lot,” tweeted Elgort. He added, “Also let me say if I was gay I wouldn’t hide it. Being gay or straight isn’t bad or good it just IS. U are who you are. Be true to yourself.”
Earlier this year, Elgort posed for a same-sex take on The Fault in Our Stars poster with Nat Wolff (see below), perhaps prompting some confused speculation about his sexuality. He and Komyshan broke up amicably over the summer, reportedly because they couldn’t spend enough time together given his schedule.
In a recent interview, his frequent co-star Shailene Woodley talked about how weird it was to go from playing Elgort’s sibling in the Divergent series to having a sex scene with him in The Fault in Our Stars. She recalled, “The first time I took my top off, and I’m sitting on top of him, he looked at me and goes, ‘This is kind of like a weird dream.’”
