'Black Jesus'

Adult Swim has handed out renewals to three of its strongest new series: Black Jesus, Mike Tyson Mysteries and Mr. Pickles.

2014 has been a big year for the youth-skewing network. Increasing it's late-night footprint to include all of primetime, now taking over for Cartoon Network at 8 p.m., the particular success of Black Jesus also marked a big step in its live-action portfolio. The comedy, from Boondocks creator Aaron McGruder, runs a full half-hour.

Black Jesus, a contemporary tale of the son of god living in  Compton, CA, opened to especially strong ratings in August. It even most broadcast competition that night among adults 18-49, and has since ranked No. 1 in its time slot. (It also comes from co-creator Mike Clattenburg and is produced by McGruder’s 5 Mutts Productions.)

The animated Mike Tyson Mysteries (Warner Bros. Animation) and Mr. Pickles (HotHouse) are more recent additions to the Adult Swim line-up. Both have enjoyed strong freshman runs, and the latter has regularly won its time slot.

They join Childrens Hospital, The Heart, She Holler and Rick and Morty (among others) as series that will air again in 2015.
