Robert Plant did NOT reject a reported $800 million offer to reunite Led Zeppelin for a series of 35 concerts to be bankrolled by Richard Branson, despite a rumor originating in the Daily Mirror. A rep for the rock legend has shot down the report, which claimed Plant ripped up the proposal after his former bandmates Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones had agreed to terms.
According to the Mirror, the plan called for Led Zeppelin to perform at 35 concerts in London, Berlin and the New York area, with a potential 45-show tour to be added. “Branson tried to pull out all of the stops,” a source told the outlet, which has routinely gotten stories about music stars like One Direction and Justin Bieber completely wrong.
The Mirror says, “Even [Branson’s] money was not enough to get Plant to sign up. [He] asked for 48 hours to think about it. His mind is made up and that’s that.” The outlet claims Plant “ripped up” the contract “in front of astonished promoters.” But while Plant has repeatedly said he has no interest in reforming Led Zeppelin following their one-off “Celebration Day” concert in 2007, the Mirror’s version of events never happened. A spokesperson for Plant tells The Guardian the story is “rubbish.”
