Dumb and Dumber To Leading Big Hero 6 At Weekend Box Office

Dumb and Dumber To Box Office

(Universal)

Dumb and Dumber To is expected to win the box office in its opening weekend, with early estimates putting the comedy at about $35 million. The sequel to the 1994 hit features Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels resuming their adventures as idiotic best friends whose low IQs lead to big laughs.

The new release is leading Big Hero 6, the animated family film, which is projected to hit $33 million for a second-place weekend finish ahead of Interstellar. The Matthew McConaughey-Anne Hathaway journey through space and time is currently tracking toward $28 million and the #3 spot.

Beyond the Lights should be in fourth place with approximately $7 million, followed by missing-wife mystery Gone Girl at roughly $4.5 million. The Bill Murray-Melissa McCarthy comedy St. Vincent and the Brad Pitt World War II tank drama Fury are each on pace for about $4 million in a battle for sixth place.

A trio of movies are projected to finish with $2.5 million or so: horror flick Ouija, the Jake Gyllenhaal film Nightcrawler, and the innovative Michael Keaton dramedy Birdman. Their exact finish in the Top 10 will become clearer as the weekend progresses. Gossip Cop will have updates. What are you seeing at theaters this weekend?
