“The Voice” battle round began on Monday, with Team Pharrell members Maiya Sykes and Elyjuh Rene going head to head, singing the Alicia Keys song “If I Ain’t Got You.”
Adding to the pressure — Keys herself was the guest mentor brought into the rehearsal session, much to the shock and delight of Sykes and Rene.
An intense battle followed, with Pharrell forced to choose between Rene’s youthful charisma and Sykes’ veteran polish. In the end — and contrary to a lot of opinion online — he went with Elyjuh Rene.
