Mark Burnett and Roma Downey to Produce Lifetime Special ‘The Women of the Bible’

Lifetime is collaborating with Roma Downey and Mark Burnett.

The husband-wife team will produce two-hour special The Women of the Bible for the female-focused network. Narrated by Downey, the program will retell stories from the Bible, featuring interviews with high-profile women in the faith community. Airing Sunday, December 7 at 7:30 p.m., it will lead into the premiere of the network's miniseries The Red Tent.

"The Bible is an inspiring source of some of the most timeless stories known today and what lies within it are important narratives about the women who play a vital role in faith," said Lifetime's EVP and GM Rob Sharenow. "There’s no one better than Mark Burnett and Roma Downey to create this special, which is the perfect complement to Lifetime’s miniseries event The Red Tent.”

The Women of The Bible is billed as a fresh look at the sacred text from the perspective of its heroines. It will focus on some of the most impactful women in biblical history, revealing little known facts about Eve, Sara, Rehab, Mary Magdalene and Mother Mary. The special will also provide insights from some of today's faith-based leaders and scholars, including Christine Caine; Priscilla Shirer, co-founder of Going Beyond Ministries; Victoria Osteen, co-pastor of Lakewood Church; Eva Rodriguez of the Latino Evangelical Women’s Association; Kay Warren, co-founder of Saddleback Church; and Joyce Meyer, Bible teacher and New York Times bestselling author.

"Women have obviously played such an important role in biblical history, and Mark and I are excited to shine a light on these individual stories through the eyes of some of today’s most incredible women of faith," added Downey.

The Women of The Bible will be produced and executive produced by Burnett and Downey’s Lightworkers Media, the faith and family division of United Artists Media Group (UAMG). UAMG will retain certain rights to The Women of The Bible, including video and international distribution rights. The special will be distributed by MGM.
