Alex the Weimaraner was found wandering the streets of New Orleans on 9 October in an emaciated and terrified state.
Staff from the city's Southern Animal Foundation rescue centre took him in immediately as it was clear the poor dog needed help fast.

X-rays discovered Alex had rocks and twigs in his stomach but nothing else, Fox 8 reported.

A few days later, the rescue centre said on its Facebook page that the dog’s stomach had flipped and that he was declining rapidly.
