In the season 5 finale, Minnie meets with Derek Alloway, a man who knew her father while fighting in the Battle of Heligoland, which her father was involved in during WWII. "I can't believe you knew my dad. Was he a happy young fellow?" Minnie asks the war vet of Ronnie, who was acknowledged as a war hero and awarded the Distinguished Flying Medal after serving as a gunner during the 1939 battle.

Minnie goes on to learn that her father, who passed away at the age of 87 in 2009, assisted in saving the reminder of the crew that day.

"I've never met anyone in my life that met my father when he was 18-years-old and to sort of hear … he was a good friend, that's a really good feeling," she tells the camera. "It was quite shocking to hear that dad was unwell after the end of that battle and I really want to know what happened to him next because that's as much as I know," she adds.
