“America’s Got Talent” had a very emotional start on Tuesday, with Howie Mandel kicking off the show by paying his respects to Robin Williams, who shockingly committed suicide this week.
Then the second act of night to perform was Anna Clendening, who in past weeks was candid about her own struggle with depression.
For the quarterfinals, she sang the poignant “Human” by Christina Perri, leaving Mandel clearly moved.
“I feel very emotional right now, because of your story and what you did…” he began. “Hearing your story in light of what happened with Robin Williams — [it removes] the stigma from mental health issues.”
He went on, “What a song choice that was. It moved me. I struggle, too. It’s just a really emotional time.”
“I don’t know what I could say but thank you,” said Mandel.
Mel B agreed, saying she “loved it.”
“You are at Radio City Music Hall performing in front of 5, 6000 people,” pointed out the judge. “That’s a lot and you contained yourself and you sang like an angel.”
