The “Downton Abbey” cast is taking this week’s big water bottle gaffe in stride.

As Gossip Cop reported, a promotional shot for the upcoming 1920s-set season accidentally showed a very modern plastic bottle behind two of the characters.

On Saturday, the show’s Facebook page shared a photo of the actors and actresses each holding water bottles to raise awareness for a good cause (see right and below).

The new picture was posted on behalf of WaterAid, an organization that provides clean water to those who need it.

The cast of Downton Abbey embraced ‘water bottle-gate’ today by posing for a picture to promote the work of international charity WaterAid.

According to the release, “A publicity still released this week hit the headlines when a plastic water bottle was spotted in the corner of the picture. The official photograph of The Earl and Lady Edith was cropped and used during the launch of the new season, but it was when an uncropped version of the image worked its way onto the internet that it sparked a global press frenzy.”

“After seeing the reaction the picture caused earlier this week, the cast and crew came up with the idea of turning some of this attention towards an issue around water that really matters,” said a spokesperson for the ITV network. “They hope that by posing for this picture they will be able to raise awareness and amplify the work of international charity – WaterAid.”

Nice!
