Lea Michele and “Glee” co-creator Ryan Murphy are talking about a real-life revival of the Broadway musical, Funny Girl.
Michele’s character, Rachel Berry, won the coveted role of Fanny Brice in the iconic musical during the current season of “Glee.”
Murphy has confirmed that the series plot line is now one step closer to becoming reality.
“I have the rights to it,” Murphy told Entertainment Weekly. “It’s something that we’re talking about. I’ve never done Broadway. I’ve always wanted to. Right now, we’re just sort of testing the waters with different people.”
But their adaptation isn’t necessarily happening any time soon.
“[Lea] and I have made no mistake of our mutual love for that property,” explained Murphy, adding, “So if it could come together at a time that she’d be willing to make that commitment to go back to Broadway — which I don’t know that she is right now — it would have to be the right director and the right leading man.”
The actress famously starred in Spring Awakening on Broadway before her “Glee” stardom.
