Friday marks former Good Morning America anchor Josh Elliott's first day of live TV coverage as part of NBC Sports, which he decamped for last month.
Elliott will be anchoring NBC Sports' coverage of the Kentucky Oaks, the companion filly race to the Kentucky Derby, and, tomorrow, participating in the network's coverage of the Kentucky Derby.

But before the racing began, Elliott reunited with his former GMA colleague Sam Champion, who also left the ABC morning show for NBCUniversal, going to the Weather Channel, which is owned by the Comcast company.
Elliott made a brief appearance shortly before 9:30 a.m. ET on Champion's Weather Channel morning show, AMHQ, where they toasted his joining the NBCUniversal family with Mint Juleps, the Kentucky Derby's signature drink.
"Are we allowed to drink this?" Elliott asked before Champion assured him it was all right since they're "on cable."

"Welcome to NBC Sports. We're happy to have you and happy that your first gig here is at the Kentucky Derby," Champion said in his toast.
Elliott added that he was glad to see his former colleague.
"I don't want to act like we haven't seen each other, but it's so good to see you, and it's nice to be here," Elliott said.
Elliott then explained what part of the Derby he'd be covering and when before the segment was abruptly interrupted by commercials.

Elliott left GMA for NBC Sports at the end of March after months of intense contract negotiations. The former morning show anchor informed ABC News head Ben Sherwood of his decision on Sunday, March 30 and never returned to the ABC morning show. (He was off on pre-scheduled vacation time the next week.)
Although Elliott is a part of the NBCUniversal family, a non-compete clause bars him from appearing on NBC's Today for six months.
